Getting There

How to Reach Phuket

Phuket International Airport (HKT) is well connected with direct flights from across Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and Europe. From Bangkok, direct flights take just over an hour. Phuket is also reachable by bus or train to Surat Thani followed by a ferry, a scenic if slower option.

💡 Pro Tip

Rent a scooter to explore the island independently — it is far cheaper than taxis, gives total freedom, and lets you discover hidden beaches and viewpoints that tour groups never reach.

Must-See

Top Things to See & Do

1. Phi Phi Islands

The iconic limestone islands — made globally famous as the setting of The Beach — are a short speedboat ride from Phuket. Maya Bay with its turquoise lagoon enclosed by sheer cliffs is one of the most beautiful small bays in the world. Go early morning to beat the crowds.

2. Phang Nga Bay

The dramatic karst limestone towers rising from emerald green water in Phang Nga Bay are genuinely otherworldly. James Bond Island, where The Man with the Golden Gun was filmed, is the most visited, but sea-kayaking through hidden caves and sea caves is far more memorable.

3. Patong, Kata & Karon Beaches

Patong is Phuket's most lively beach — nightlife, restaurants, and water sports in abundance. For something more tranquil, Kata and Karon offer long stretches of golden sand, gentle waves, and a more relaxed atmosphere.

4. Phuket Old Town

The Sino-Portuguese shophouse architecture of Phuket's old town is charming and undervisited. Colorful heritage buildings, excellent coffee shops, street art, and Sunday Walking Street market make it an essential half-day.

5. Big Buddha

The 45-metre white marble Buddha atop Nakkerd Hill is visible from much of the island and offers the finest panoramic views over Phuket. Worth visiting at sunset when the sky turns extraordinary shades of orange and pink.
