How to Reach Prague
Václav Havel Airport (PRG) is extensively served by budget airlines from across Europe. Prague is also well connected by rail from Vienna (4 hrs), Berlin (4.5 hrs), and Budapest. The city center is 30–40 minutes from the airport by bus.
The Prague Card covers public transport and entry to over 50 attractions including Prague Castle — outstanding value for a 2–3 day visit.
Top Things to See & Do
1. Prague Castle
The largest ancient castle complex in the world dominates the city from its hilltop. Inside, St. Vitus Cathedral is breathtaking — its stained glass filtering colored light across gothic stone. The views over the red-roofed city are unforgettable.
2. Charles Bridge
The 14th-century stone bridge lined with 30 baroque saints is most magical at dawn, when mist rises from the Vltava River and the crowds haven't yet arrived. The defining Prague image.
3. Old Town Square & Astronomical Clock
The medieval Astronomical Clock performs its hourly procession of apostles, but the real magic is simply standing in Old Town Square surrounded by layers of Gothic, Baroque, and Rococo architecture in extraordinary harmony.
4. Josefov — The Jewish Quarter
One of the most significant Jewish heritage sites in Europe. The Old Jewish Cemetery, where thousands are buried in layers, and the synagogues around it tell a powerful and moving story.
5. Vinohrady & Žižkov
Beyond the tourist center, these residential neighborhoods offer excellent local restaurants, beautiful art nouveau architecture, and a completely authentic Prague experience.
What to Eat in Prague
- Svíčková — slow-roasted beef sirloin in cream sauce with bread dumplings, the Czech Sunday classic
- Czech beer — Pilsner Urquell's birthplace is nearby; Prague pours arguably the world's best lager
- Trdelník — spiral pastry cooked over charcoal, sold on every Old Town street corner
- Smažený sýr — fried breaded cheese, a beloved Czech fast food staple
Best Time to Visit
Prague is beautiful year-round. Spring and autumn are ideal for sightseeing without extreme crowds. December Christmas markets are genuinely magical. July–August is peak season — very busy but lively.
