How to Reach Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is one of Southeast Asia's major hubs. The KLIA Ekspres train reaches KL Sentral in 28 minutes. KL is also a major hub for AirAsia, making it an excellent and cheap regional base.
KL's integrated public transport — LRT, MRT, monorail, and KTM commuter trains — all use the same Touch n Go card. Getting around is cheap and efficient once you understand the network.
Top Things to See & Do
1. Petronas Twin Towers
The twin steel-and-glass towers remain one of the most spectacular pieces of architecture on Earth. The Skybridge on floors 41–42 and the observation deck on floor 86 offer extraordinary views across the KL basin.
2. Batu Caves
Towering limestone cave temples 13km north of the city — 272 rainbow-painted steps lead to the dramatic cave shrine above a enormous golden statue of Lord Murugan.
3. Chinatown & Petaling Street
KL's historic Chinatown with pre-war shophouses, clan temples, and covered markets. The street food here is excellent — eat at Jalan Alor for a definitive KL evening.
4. Islamic Arts Museum
One of the finest Islamic art museums in the world — extraordinary textiles, ceramics, calligraphy, and manuscripts spanning the entire Islamic world.
5. KL Forest Eco-Park
A genuinely wild forest in the heart of the city — the canopy walkway through ancient trees just minutes from the Petronas Towers is one of KL's most surprising experiences.
